Get to know our new new Podiatrist - Felicity Connolly

We threw Felicity in the “hot seat” to help you get to know her!

  1. What led you to Podiatry as a career?

I initially started off in an engineering degree at university and after a year of study I decided that it wasn’t for me. I realised that I wanted a career where I could talk to and help people, so allied health seemed like the perfect choice. After attending a university open day, I discovered the incredible work that podiatrists do and I haven’t looked back since!

2. Where did you train/ study?

I studied a Bachelor of Podiatry at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.

3. Who is your hero / idol / if you have one?!

My dad is my hero. He has worked very hard and achieved a lot of success in his life, yet remains one of the most humble, gracious and down to earth people I know.

4. What is the best part of your job?

The best part about my job is being able to make a difference in other people’s lives, no matter how big or small.

5. What is your favourite sporting team?

Queensland Firebirds Netball Team

6. What would your dream holiday be?

Seeing the Northern Lights is at the top of my bucket list!

7. What's the most memorable trip /adventure you have been on?

My fiancé and I attended a friend’s wedding in India 2 years ago and it was incredible! We travelled around a little bit after the wedding and it was such a humbling and eye-opening experience. I’d love to go back to India one day to explore some more.

8. Do you have any hobbies?

Back home in Brisbane I was very involved with netball (playing, coaching and umpiring) and I would love to continue with this now that I’ve moved down to Sydney. I also love travelling and exploring new places and will often go on little weekend adventures with my fiancé.

9. Tell us something only your family knows about you:

I was a very good tap dancer as a child! Not many people know this about me as I stopped dancing when I was 12 to start playing more netball, but my mum still holds on to all the photos and trophies!

General Treatments with Felicity Connolly; how do they differ from a pedicure?

Here at PodMED we are passionate about providing thorough and comprehensive treatments, with a strong focus on attention to detail. It’s all about doing the simple things really well.

One of the most simple BUT important jobs we do is the General Treatment; a comprehensive, professional treatment of all aspects of your foot’s skin and nails. For this reason, our appointment times are set at longer than the industry standard. This gives us the opportunity to be fussy and to make sure your feet are in the absolute best shape possible before walking out the door.

Good general foot care is essential in helping your feet to look, feel and function at their best. If you have painful or difficult to manage toenails, recurring corns or calluses or dry and cracked heels, regular maintenance with a Podiatrist is vital.

So what’s the difference between having a pedicure and seeing a Podiatrist? It’s similar to the difference between a dental assistant and a qualified Dentist. If you were faced with the choice, who would you choose?Corns, calluses, cuticles and ingrown or involuted toenails should always be managed by a Podiatrist, not a nail technician. We pride ourselves on being the most thorough general treatment Podiatrists in Sydney. Our reputation relies on your feet looking and feeling great.

As Podiatrists, we are university qualified professionals. As such, we are able to use instruments and perform procedures that a nail technician is not trained to do, as well as being governed by strict infection control protocols. Our clients rest easy knowing we are experts in this field and their feet are safe in our hands.

Remember how greatyour feet look & feel after a General Podiatry Treatment? Like you’re walking on air! If you’re looking for a comprehensive treatment of your feet and someone who’s going to take the time to make sure they are in their absolute best shape, book an appointment to see Felicity Connolly today.

HELP FOR RUNNERS

The days are getting longer, the mornings warmer and sea breeze is charming us to its shore...it’s Fun Run Season. And as we honour-in another Masterchef, prepare for mango season and wonder if Australian sport will ever shine again, we strap the runners on.

Will I beat last year’s time? Will I run the whole thing this year? Will I sign up and finally do it? Will I avoid injury this time?

Questions we have all pondered; however, maybe not the most important questions.

(Almost) no-one gets taught how to run. We teach ourselves to walk. Then it’s keep up with older siblings, chase our first school bus, beep test torture, and before long it’s Hyde Park to Bondi for the City2Surf. It just kind of...happens. Amazing really.

However, despite all of our enthusiasm, there are some vital facts runners need to know before embarking on the year of “This is the year”.

  1. 65% of runners get injured annually. Harsh, but true.
  2. The major proven risk factors associated with injured runners:
  1. Almost all running injuries are chronic. This means they will develop gradually, almost without you realising, until it’s too late.

At PodMED Podiatry, as runners ourselves, we understand the anxiety that comes with strapping the runners back on. We want to turn that anxed into positive energy that can work for you. We want to motivate you with the appropriate training habits and running technique to best achieve your running goals. Learning how to run or refining a self-taught training regime can really be the difference between “I’ll do it next year” and finally beating Sally from accounts.

Whatever your running goal is, we’ll help answer the important questions…

How will I beat last year’s time? How will I run the whole thing this year? How will I sign up and finally do it? How will I avoid injury this time?

Whether you’ve just picked up running, succumbed to peer pressure and finally put your name down, or desperate to hit your PB - You set the goal; let us deal with “How?”

If you are more serious about maximising the improvement in your running and want to take the extra steps straight away, Call us for your private one on one customised session where you will receive a full running tutorial, your top technical improvements identified on the spot, along with a report outlining simple easy to implement improvement. All in the 1st session at $110 a saving of $70.

Special offer.

PodMED Podiatry patients who are running the City2Surf receive a SPECIAL 40% off the cost of a full private Running assessment in our Double Bay Practice. All inclusive reporting and personalised technical ques to help you run better. This is a limited time offer. You must provide proof of your City2Surf entry to qualify. The 40% discount also attracts private health rebate if the individual has Podiatry or Coverage.

We would love to see you guys before the City2Surf.If you are struggling with pain or want to take your running to the next level book an appointment with Sam or Ed today.
